Service Description
Advanced Dentistry offers a comprehensive course in Pit and Fissure Sealants, enabling dental assistants to earn a certificate that is a strict requirement by the California Dental Board for RDAs. Requirements: Bring protective eyewear (gloves and masks will be provided). Must be 18 years of age or older. Must be a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA). Bring a current CPR card. Bring a California 8-hour infection control certificate. Bring a California Dental Practice Act. Day One: Lecture (includes lab session) The typodont will be used to practice bite articulation, sealant application, moisture control, and tooth preparation. Students will learn about tooth morphology, dental anatomy, materials and their applications, infection control during treatments, and the theory and practice of pit and fissure sealants. Day Two: Written Exam Clinical exam, which includes the application of four to eight sealants. Students will practice on a typodont or manikin, where they will be taught the proper steps involved in applying pit and fissure sealants. Practice will include tooth preparation, moisture control, applying the proper amount of sealant, and bite articulation using a typodont or manikin. Once clinical proficiency is achieved, students will apply pit and fissure sealants to 16 virgin teeth (teeth without restorations). In order to apply pit and fissure sealants, students must provide a minimum of four patients. The clinical final test will require students to complete procedures on two of the four live patients. Successful completion of the clinical exam is necessary to obtain the Pit and Fissure Sealant Certificate.
